Message from Ms. Motycki

The process of selecting individual courses and preparing for a challenging program of studies is an important task for every high school student. The Guidance Department is committed to helping students select meaningful courses for graduation and to assist in the transition from high school to employment or post secondary education.

Beginning in eighth grade, the high school and middle school guidance counselors provide a classroom presentation on graduation requirements, courses of study, information on technology preparation, and college credit available through select high school courses. Individual guidance and consultation is provided to prepare students for their transition to high school. In addition, an orientation is provided for parents of eighth grade students to offer transitional services to the high school.

All students in grades 9, 10, and 11 receive a yearly presentation on the curriculum. Highlights include: vocational training opportunities, technology preparation, weighted courses, and college credit courses. Individual consultations are available to assist in course selection. Other services include, but are not limited to:
  • ASVAB Testing
  • Career Exploration
  • Career Assessments
  • Career Majors and High School Career Planning Guide
  • Career Cruising
  • Field Trip to Mon Valley Career and Technology Center (Grade 9)
  • Governor’s School of Excellence Programs
  • High School Orientation
  • Individual Career Appointments
  • “Project Forward” Talent Search
  • Scholarship Information
  • Financial Aid Night

Requests for high school transcripts should be processed with some lead time to ensure proper handling. Seniors must be responsible for observing school and scholarship deadlines. Providing requests for transcripts two weeks prior to deadlines is most helpful from an administrative and processing point of view.
